And 5 Reasons Why I Love Online Shopping

A couple of weeks ago I talked about why I love shopping in real stores. Well today let's take a look at 5 good reasons to love online shopping.

1. You Can Dream

And live the joy of expectation. When you go into a shop, you will see something you fancy, see if it's there in your size, try it on and see right there and then whether it is or isn't for you. With online shops, you see an item you fancy, but you'll have to imagine how it will look on you and how it'll make you feel when you put it on. You'll be wishfully thinking that it will look oh so good on you.

And whilst I am waiting for the package to arrive, that wishful thinking turns into full blown Hollywood movies, my very own version of Zoolander, where I am absolutely ridiculously good looking thanks to my newly purchased garment.

And yes, Fashion Bloggers help people too!

Of course, if it ain't matching, it can be a bit of a downer, which then turns into a reason not to shop online haha. But meanwhile ... you get the pleasure of having bought something nice for yourself and the feeling of having something nice on it's way to you, which leads me to...

2. You've got Mail

I love getting things in the mail. For years I've participated in Postcrossing, a site that works like a Secret Santa for postcards. Love it. And there's just something beautiful about unpacking goods and either discovering what is in them (if it's a surprise package), or discovering whether what is in them matches your expectations and you'll really be as ridiculously good looking as Hansel & Derek when putting it on.

Right now I am right there with point 1 and 2. Waiting for my mail and hoping I'll be a viral going stunner (which would be the fashion blogger version of being Derek Zoolander) when I can finally put it on.

3. You don't have to leave the house

I know, I know. It's the contrary somewhat to what I said last time, but let's face it, real shopping takes time. Driving to the shop, browsing the shop, picking things you want to try, heading to the changing room which hopefully has no queue (good luck with that during the first sales days) and right there try on everything you picked. And while I do find it pleasurable (I know, many don't, but I like it up to a certain point) there are times when one just cannot up and go. Or maybe you live further away from the next bigger (and better) shopping accomodation (be it mall or city center). Personally it only takes me 15-20 mins to arrive in the middle of shopping, but for example my sister lives in a small village, a good 30 to 40 mins by car away from the next better option, plus she has two small children and a job that requires her to be away from home. Online Shopping is a real option for her, especially considering what a royal p.i.t.a (no not the bread) it can be to go shopping with and/or for kids.

And yes, I realize 40mins is still ridiculous little travel time for some of you.

4. Sometimes I cannot get it locally

No matter how much I wished so, some things I simply cannot get here and neither is there an adequate substitute. Some brands & stores do not distribute their wares in Italy at all, or if they do, either only in very few selected cities or at limited product range in a selected few stores. That's when online shopping and international delivery becomes a life saver of sorts.

Additionally,  I sometimes just might want to have something people here cannot buy at the next corner (which is by the way also one of the reasons I dig thrift & fleamarket shopping). You know, we all want to be unique little snowflakes.

5. Bargains and Comparing Prices

Some shops offer online exclusive discounts and promotional codes. Some have items on sale online that aren't marked down in your local shop. You can compare prices between different retailers that stock the same brands or types of goods. Maybe what you want is actually on sale somewhere. You have an overview of the market and its offers at your finger tips, just a click or two away instead of having to drive across the city or walk across the mall

In the end, between thrift, normal retail stores and online, I'm probably at about 1/3 each for the total amount of shopping I do. Definitely prefer "real stores" when buying second hand, I do not have much experience buying second hand online, even tho there are numerous options around, but I like to actually evaluate the "very good condition " myself.

Disclaimer: Don't watch when your modesty setting is on very high, people are pulling off their underpants (hah!)
