This time New York Fashion Week didn't do much for me. I remember how excited I was just over a week ago for it to start and then ... not sure where it went. All I can say is that I looked at a lot of shows & collections and most of them felt very bland to me. Like just a rehash of the same stuff we saw in the last two years. Yet another revival of the 60ies, 70ies, you name it. Boring colors. Boring cuts. Everything seen already all too recently. It was not bad or ugly clothing at all, don't get me wrong, but a big part felt very uninteresting to me.
Of course I realize that labels & fashion houses have their signature style, their signature looks, the thing they are known for and rarely do they totally reinvent themselves because it contains a certain risk. Why do something you don't know wether it will be liked if you can just fall back on stuff that has worked well before? Something that is part of who you are as a brand? Especially because there is also a lot of moeny involved. That is something all artists & creators face, not only in the fashion industry. I vividly remember some music groups trying to veer off the worn out track. Some made it big time and some failed and went "back to the roots". It doesn't even need to be a total "I am gonna shock my fan base" reinvention and sometimes it happens naturally when a Label / House changes the head designer / creative director.
