La Mille Miglia - An All Black Outfit Day
It looks like I've already found my long black skirt that was on my "Funky 12 Piece Wardrobe" fashion wish list. Even tho some might consider this a midi skirt, at my height, borderline petite, the tulle part arrives at the ankles. I've already worn it for the first time on Sunday 21st when I went to watch the Mille Miglia.
This year saw the 90th anniversary of the Mille Miglia. The Mille Miglia is a famous and historical car race that was held for the first time in 1927. Nowadays it is a "race" for old timer cars, none of which can be from after 1957 and, I if I understood correctly, must be models that were used in the original editions. But back then those cars where just fresh on the market and the Mille Miglia, that goes from Brescia to Rome and back to Brescia, was still an actual race. Two fatal crashes in the 1957 edition spelled the end of the Mille Miglia in its original format. You can read up more on the history here at the official page.
This year the Mille Miglia passed through two towns close by on its final leg back to Brescia, so I went to take a peak at the cars. Now, I am a total car newb. I have a very rough idea on how the motors work, but apart from that and being able to identify brands, cars for me are just cars and I even try to not use ours all that much for reasons of being more eco-friendly. And I seriously don't even want to calculate the fuel used in those roughly 3 days. That said, it was utterly fascinating. The super cars had something entirely mesmerising and magnetic to them and the old cars were just friggin' charming and I kept imagining how it must be to travel in such a car through the Italian country side. Some teams went as far as using old school leather caps and stuff. It was quite an interesting experience. And I can understand a little bit better why some people find the roaring of motors sexy.
I had been toying with the idea of a tulle skirt for a while, but didn't want the full skirt version. This one is a nice mix of midi and maxi in my opinion. Upon seeing it on the page of the online store, I could immediately imagine a couple of ways to dress it either up or down. Here I am on a middle ground I think. Neither too chic, nor too sporty or casual.
When I put it on, I didn't really want to take it off again as it is very fluffy and soft, very light. Very pleasurable to wear. Perfect for even warmer days. How it's going to hold up with hot hot hot days we'll have to discover.
