June's Favorite Five - What I loved last Month

Time for the monthly Top 5 Favorite "Things" round up.

1. Getting my Black Belt

Well what can I say. I know I've been talking about it a lot, but it is that huge of a deal for me. And it isn't. And it is. Isn't. That I understand is a bit of a contradiction. It was an important milestone for me personally, in terms of achievement and personal growth. Did you know that I used to think of myself as the most non sporty person on the planet? But at the same time it was exactly that, just one milestone along the way.

2. Pineapple Top

I've added two cool print tops to my ever growing collection recently and this is one of them. The other one is the Giraffe you saw on Instagram. I haven't worn the pineapple for an outfit for the blog yet, but as I said, we take pictures twice a week, and a week has seven days.

I had been pondering whether to pineapple or not to pineapple for awhile, and what sold me here is the interesting color mix they used for the print. It's also a top with those huge arm openings, so plenty of breathing room in this heat. I honestly cannot stand clothing that's tight under the arm anymore, not even when it's colder. And for those that are bothered that you see the bra, you can always just put a bustier under/over.

3. Alverde Wildrose Reinigungsmilch

The Alverde Wildrose Cleansing Milk is another product I'm usually buying in Germany. And I will be buying it again when I go there in August, provided it is still available in a DM drugstore near me (well my parent's house). I've been very happy about the results on my skin, which had a lot less outbreaks after I switched to using this one. It's so nice I actually forgot already what I used before.

Alverde is the bio cosmetic line of the DM chain and the Wildrose series is for dry skin. Now I certainly don't have dry skin, but I have sensitive one. Besides, I once read on Garance Dorè (long time ago) that her dermatologist told her to not dry out her skin too much because that actually leads to it producing even more serbum. I found this to be true for me at least as far as cleansing products go. I still use light creams to hydrate, especially in summer.

4. Predictably Irrational

This is an interesting one. The tagline of *Dan Ariely's book* reads "The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions" It's pretty much sales and marketing oriented, as they explore in depth what triggers people into buying things, but the experiments and finds are very interesting and applicable also outside of direct sales, especially when they start considering social norms. If you are in any way interested in that kind of topic, I'd recommend it. If you just want to explore your own triggers and shopping behaviour, it's an enlightening read too.

5. My Parent's Visit

Last but not least for sure - infact I only put it there because I wanted to open and end the post with an event.

Since I've moved to Italy, I only see my parents three times a year. Twice when we go for a visit back to Germany (soon!) and once when they come down here. The life of an expat. Or anyone who moves several hours drive away from where their family of origin lives.

Anyway, this is one of the highlights of the year, so of course I'd include it here. It's usually a week packed with interesting day trips, depending on the weather of course.
